I finally scrapped

I scrapped yesterday. My daughter at Disneyland Paris over the summer. My DH took the kids while I had a day out in Paris. (BLISS) he took about 6 photos in total. Can you sense that he is no scrapper? I struggled with this LO, it was all the pastel colours that threw me, but in the end I just decided to go with pretty. I am reasonably pleased with the LO though. I think it looks better in real life. I went to dunelm Mills yesterday to buy curtains for my son's room. (I used to make all the curtains for my house, but then I discovered scrapping!) Anyway I found a set of three blue painted tins on a little tray for £1.99, to keep my pens in. They came in lots of other lovely colours too.

I love my daughter

I love my daughter, even more so on nights like this when she is not getting irritated by how I breathe, or how her father eats, or how her brother taps on the table, or numerous other things that seem to irritate her constantly these days. No, on nights like these she is a delight. Look what she did tonight- she saw a dessert on ready, steady cook a few weeks back, and tonight she made her own version for us. She cut the top and bottom off a tin of something or other to make a mould, and made this yummy mango, cream and spiced peach dessert. It looked so pretty I just had to take a photo of it (might even scrap it- what a surprise! AND she even cleaned up afterwards. What a good girl- not bad for a 13 year old eh?

GGRRRRR!

I did my first LO in ages tonight, and my nerves are frayed. Firstly, it was my first DT LO for Jillybeans, so I wanted it to be good, so found it hard to make up my mind about anything. Secondly, my house is still a midden, and I was having to walk across my son's mattress on the floor to get at any of my stash. Thirdly, my stash is in a mess and I can't find anything, and I can't tidy it because of Jack's stuff being all over the room as well. BUT the main reason is my HUSBAND!!! He kept coming in and looking over my shoulder and telling me that my LO wasn't working, it was too basic, colours didn't work etc etc,. Now he normally isn't interested in my scrapping, thinks I'm nuts for doing it, spend too much money on it, have too much stash etc so for him to come and start telling me how to scrap was the last straw. He has no idea of design, is colour blind, couldn't hand cut a title if his life depended on it, yet he has the cheek to tell me what I'm doing is wrong!! No wonder I'm fraught! I wonder if anyone else has had this experience? If he continues like this I will end up in prison for murder- 'No your honour, I wasn't suffering from PMT- but he did criticise my scrapping!' Do you think the judge will understand?

First day back

Well my first day back wasn't so bad, but I still want to be a SAHM, well actually I want to stay at home and try to be creative, and not with housework and packed lunches! As I was leaving for work my daughter said 'have a good day mum, I'll think of you when I'm having a frappichino at Starbucks.' Oh, to be 13 again. Well not really, I wouldn't want to go through all that teenage angst again. The painters began work on the house today, but say they will need a week to get the work done, so meanwhile we are still living in a state of chaos, which means not much in the way of scrapping will get done in the next week. I received my first kit as a Design Team member from Jillybeans Scrapyard today and I am so pleased because I have had a photo of Emily, aged about 2, rolling around in a whole lot of heather, that I have wanted to scrap for ages and have been unable to find paper for, and this looks to be perfect. I popped into Lakeland today and bought 5 A4 stationery cases, which I know are going to be just perfect for storing my foam alphabet stamps- oh and I bought a tin of Forever Flowers too- well I needed a reward for going back to work!

Don't want to go back to work!

My holiday has finished- back to work tomorrow and I don't want to go. I am doing an inservice presentation all day tomorrow and I just can't get into it at all- I just haven't got my work head on. I just want to stay home and scrap! Of course in reality I can't scrap because my house is still a shambles- Jack is still camped in the family room, and I can't easily get to my stash. The plaserers have finished at last, and once the plaster dries, the painters can start, then we need new carpets laid, and only then can Jack move back into his room. I have started getting new furniture for him- a trip to Ikea today for chest of drawers and bedside table. I have just finished putting the bedside table together. The plumber is coming to replace the kitchen tap tomorrow, so at least now I can stop carting water from the bathroom, and I'll have no more excuses for a dirty kitchen.Thought I'd upload some pictures of the damage caused by a leaking pipe. Believe me it is a lot worse than it appears in the photos- for one thing the photos don't stink!

Back home

We came back from Skye today, a day early because the weather was so poor while we were there, and wasn't really suitable for hillwalking. Having said that, we did manage some lovely low level walks. It would have been nice to get a glimpse of the tops of hills though. I took Emily around some craft shops and ended up buying some gorgeous handspun wool, and teaching Emily to knit- garter stitch only. She is 13 and struggled at first, but now has managed to do some rows independently. It makes me think though, cause I knitted my first cardigan independently when I was 10- it was a Brownie cardigan, and I have knitted ever since (although not in the last 10 years)These skills will get lost in the modern world I fear.
Anyway we were keen to get home and see what progress the builders had made on our water damaged house. Well, we should have stayed in Skye. The rooms, which were meant to have all the plastering finished, are nowhere ready, and there is fine dust over every surface in the house. I go back to work on Monday, and can't bear the thought that I am leaving such a dirty chaotic house behind. I am going to have to go out all weekend- hate the thought of being in this mess.

I Scrapped!

I am living in the middle of a midden as a result of the flooding, but yesterday I decided I had to scrap- it has been nearly 5 weeks since I had done a LO, and I needed a fix. Yesterday my tag along and dies, that I won as part of the Best of British prize arrived, so I had a play with it and ended up doing this LO. I wasn't sure of it at first, but I think I like it now. What do you tnink? I must say that I have never been interested in owning a die cutting system and would never have bought one myself. I think I might splash out on an alphabet though- I'll have to think about it. I quite enjoy hand cutting titles, but there are times when a bit of speed is in order.
Work starts on the house, to remove the plaster from three rooms on Friday, so we are having to move furniture, pack belongings etc- almost like moving house. We are going to Skye on Saturday though, so hopefully most of the work will be done while we are away.
