More LOs

I was a guest designer for ATML for May and was sent some fab Scenic Route products to work with. These included chipboard beach stickers so this dictated a beach LO. The papers have lots of circles and I was tempted to cut into them, but in the end decided to simply layer the papers. The Kraft paper background also has circles, which I've added to with a little doodling. I've had the bUcket and spade buttons for a long, long time, and since I'm on a mission to use my stash, I decided to add those too. I love the bobble trim and the lime green broderie anglais trim- both were bought in Madrid, and they add a cheery touch as well as a bit of texture and dimension.


I love this next LO. It too has layered paper blocks, but this time I also used some acrylic paints and sequin waste and masked off a circular area to add a bit more pattern. The title is a sizzlets alphabet-BLOCK PARTY. It's a very versatile font that can be used informally-like on this LO, or if kept straight can be more formal. The addition of white acrylic paint adds to the impact. The faux stitching is done with a Lakeland Ltd border stamp. I doodled a bit on this LO too.

Tomorrow I'm off the a craft fair here in Edinburgh-it's mainly stamps, but I fancy some new inks and some other bits and pieces.

another LO...

..using 3ndypapir-love the colour combination, the chocolate brown and the blue are perfect together-and this paper lends itself just as well to vintage style pages (see my ealier post LO 'EMILY') as it does to this more modern style with lots of white space. I love the hibiscous flower design on this paper. I can just see men's board shorts made from this design, can't you?

Been busy..

....scrapping, art journalling, taking photos, and also working on making a little book of quotes or sayings that for one reason or another resonate with me. I've done some more LOs using the 3ndypapir papers from Angelcrafts. This first one has been inspired by Irene (Scrapperlicious) Irene uses lots of complex techniques and lots of different layers in her pages, but I particularly like how she uses transparent elements, and so that's what I've done with this page. I scanned in the image of the butterfly, the flower and the leaves, and printed them off onto a transparency. These were then cut out, doodled on and adhered. The flower was gently heated with a heat gun to get the petals to curl a little before adhereing. I've also used a napkin on this page- it's the bit with the brown butterfly and leaves at the top.

The next LO is much simpler. I didn't want to cover up the design on the corners of the papers here, so I had to be careful about the placement of the photos. I've kept the embellishment quite simple too. All I did was to colour a paper doily to match the flower, and then folded it to look like a spanish fan and adhered it to act as a frame for the photos.

I have so many photos from Madrid to be scrapped. We had a fabulous time there- what a great city-so much to do and see, especially if you like art (or even if, like Jack, you like football-2 stadiums to visit!)

Just for you, Kat

I was at the crop today- I only went for a couple of hours and didn't do much, just put my album together for Shimelle's class- Scrap the Day. This is a year long class where you photograph and scrap the same date each month. For most people this is the 25th of the month, but I was a day late, so mine will be the 26th of each month. You can join this class anytime, so why not give it a go. At the end you should have a snapshot of your life over the course of one year.

Anyway, at the crop Kat commented that I've been neglecting my A-Z of Edinburgh, and that is true. I will get back to photographing soon-It's just that at this time of the year I'm kept quite busy in the garden (which is looking lovely I might add!) So I told Kat I would add a LO I did of Greyfriars and here it is:

I have to say I love this layout. There are lots of techniques on this page-crackle medium, heat embossing, acrylic paint dry brushing, and napkins. I love using napkins because they are very translucent, allowing the underneath layers to show through. There are pieces of three napkins on this page- the angel, the lilies, and the butterflies.

Don't you just love it..

...when you find something new and unique? These new papers from Norway are just that. What I love about them is a) they are double sided, and in my opinion that is double the value; b) they can be used as well on vintage style layouts as they can on more modern pages. They are exclusive to Angelcrafts and are only produced in small quantities. So here are two layouts I've made so far:




This is an old photo of Emily taken in predigital. days. I scanned it and used Picasa to change it to black and white and add a blue tint. I really like the effect. Picasa is a great programme- download for free from Google. Photos can be edited and different effects applied at the click of your mouse. Love it! lots of tearing, inking, sewing and lace give this LO a lovely vintage feel.


This layout on the other hand has a more modern feel, even though the photo looks old fashioned. This is Jack wearing my hat while on holiday in France in 1993. This is another photo taken before I knew anything about photography, and in the original photo I am sitting behind Jack and there is washing hanging on a line flapping all around. I used the clone tool in Photoshop Elements 3 to get rid of all that distraction, and then used Picasa to get a sepia effect. I could have used PSE3 to get the sepia effect but I really prefer the effects from Picasa. I use the sharpen and the glow effects from Picasa on a lot of my photos. In real life the green of this paper is so vivid , and the brown is rich and chocolatey! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the papers!!

Art Journal-I

I is for image transfer, ink and imagination.

This was a simple quick page for my Art journal. First I altered a photo to make it black and white with strong contrast, and then printed it out onto the smooth side of a transparency. I then set it aside to dry- well kind of-it never really dries.

Meanwhile I painted some water colour paper with gesso, and when it was dry, I blended distress inks onto the paper. Then I took my transparency and burnished it to transfer the image onto the paper.

Then added the quote.
Voila!





I really like the blended ink, and the image transfer effect-think I'll try this on a scrapbook page soon.

How silly..

My last post I uploaded the Emily LO that I had already uploaded a few posts earlier.

I have done lots of LOs recently that can't be shown yet because they are DT work. Meantime I am busy in the graden-At this time of the year scrapping becomes a night time activity as thereis so much to be done and enjoyed outdoors. his is for the letter F in my art journal-fabric, felt and fibres.
