Love stencils? Want to win goodies?

Stencils are great fun, and very trendy in the scrappy world (in case you haven't noticed!). The challenge at Merly Impressions this month is to use stencils on a layout. You can find out more about the challenge here. You have until January 3rd to get your entry in for a chance to win a £25 voucher to spend in the Merly Impressions shop. There are lots of different stencil in the shop, and the one I got to play with this Tim Holtz one:
Layering Stencil - Stripes
So here's the layout I made:
This layout also uses papers from the St Nicholas collection by Kaisercrafts. I love how versatile this collection is. You'd never guess from this layout that these are Christmas papers.
While I had the stencil out I also whipped up some simple Christmas cards:

CSI 100

I'm playing along with CSI again this week. As soon as I saw the colour palette I knew I wanted to join in-I just love all those neutrals with a pop of yellow!

So here's my layout featuring numbers, bricks, stars, grids, with journaling using numbers:

And some close ups-
Stencils, Masking, Misting, Stamping :
Rub ons:

The brick background paper is by Kaisercrafts, available from Merly Impressions. It's part of the Basecoat Collection, which I adore!! The stamps, rub ons, and chipboard numbers are also by Kaisercrafts.

Why not hop on over to CSI and join in this week?

CSI 98

I'm playing along with CSI again this week. The colour palette this time was quite a challenge to me. I'm not a huge lover of pastel colours, and certainly not of apricot yellow, or purple, both of which were in the palette this week.
Here is the challenge:
and here is my layout:
I'm sure I'm not the only woman out there who longs for time and space, peace and quiet!
I decided to do a mixed media background for the layout. A few weeks back I had started a layout and not been happy with how it looked in the early stages. So I put it away and did something else instead. But I came across the discarded piece it while getting materials to make this layout, and decided to use it as the base for this challenge. This is what it looked like:
First some texture paste through a stencil:
Then some mists:
I didn't like it at this stage, so that's when I discarded it.
So I worked on it some more, with acrylic paints and mists, stamps and stencils for the CSI challenge..
Here are some close ups of the finished layout:
So, the lesson here is, don't discard what you are not happy with-you can always change and adapt for use in different projects.
I'd love you to comment and link me to your projects where you have done a similar revamp!

Tea Party

This is a layout I did for Merly Impressions a while back, and forgot to post here. This layout features the Tea Party Collection by Kaisercrafts, and what a pretty collection is too!
This photo is of my mum when she was a wee girl.
Love this photo!

Mixed Media Layout

This is a layout that I did some time ago.
I loved making this layout-lots of messy stuff!
I also love the subtle colour palette of the page.

So here's a few photos to show the stages of making the layout. One thing I love about this style of layout is that I can use up old papers. This is an old paper from Dream Street, but once I covered it in gesso it's virtually unrecognisable. So I swiped gesso all over the paper and use a foam stamp to stamp into the wet gesso.
Then I misted through a grid pattern and added some strips of book page:

Next came torn tissue paper and stamping:
Finally some burlap, photos, title, journaling and paint splats:
And that's how this layout was made!

Want to win some Scrap goodies?

There's a £25 voucher up for grabs at Merly Impressions. All you have to do is join in with the October challenge for a chance to win. The challenge is to make a layout on the theme of HOME. For my layout I decided to do a layout about the cottage we stay in every Easter on the Isle of Skye. It's a rental cottage, not ours sadly! But every time we stay there I really wish it was our home. It's a very modest house, with a spectacular view.
I used the Tea Party collection by Kaisercrafts for my layout:

Don't you love the little wooden teapot and cup embellishments?
Why not join in with the October challenge-you could buy this collection for yourself if you win!

CSI layout

This month I'm guest designer over at CSI.
I started my stint with this challenge:

And this is my layout:
The inspiration picture had a lovely whimsical feel which I wanted to capture in this layout.
I made a little book for the journaling, and the photo is the front cover of the book. I sanded and painted around the photo of Emily to give the photo a slightly unreal, illustrative quality. (At least that's what I was trying to achieve!)
As you can see, here's the wee book:
I used ephemera related to reading and books-the eye charts, book fair flyer:
and pictures and text from an old children's book:
This was such a fun layout to make.

CSI 91 Scrapbook Page

Here's my layout for CSI 91:
And here's the inspiration:
I've used birds, wet medium (acrylic paint and mists), stripes and tearing. The journaling inspiration came from Dream Dictionary.  I went to Dream Dictionary and found 'Steps'. need to take a chance and take that first step toward your goals or dreams...To dream that you are sitting on the steps suggests that you need to pause from life's demands and reevaluate your decisions, challenges, goals, and path before continuing on.
I thought this was appropriate for my daughter who is entering her final year at Uni, and CV building, trying to determine what her next steps will be as she embarks on a career.
The journaling is on the tag.

CSI 90 scrapbook page

This layout was my take on Case 90 at CSI.

Here is the colour scheme and the challenge prompts:

My background is simple stamp pads stamped direct to paper. The triangles were made by stamping through a triangle stencil, and then sewing roughly over them to link them together. The journalling is tucked under the photo. As you can see from the close up, the photo is raised up on foam pads to enable the journaling card to slip in underneath.

Scrapbook page: CSI#89

This week I participated once again in the challenge over at CSI. You can find the details of the challenge here. The layout journaling was prompted by the word 'art', as stated in the challenge.
Here's my layout:
The challenge included a page sketch to follow-here it is:
As you can see I followed it pretty closely! As coincidence would have it I had already printed the small photos off for another layout, but changed my mind about using them. When I saw the sketch and the prompt it all came together very easily.

One of the challenges was to use a straw to blow paint around on the page. Since I didn't have a straw in the house, I had to disassemble a ball point pen to use instead!!
Another of the challenges was to use brackets. These are Kaisercrafts diecut brackets. They were the wrong colour, so I just flipped them over, coloured them with a black marker, then used glossy accents to give them that lovely glossy finish.
Another one of the prompts was to use different fonts, and as you can see I used a few! The journaling is all hand stamped. I love the effect, but it was time consuming!!
Why not head over to CSI and join in the challenges?
